Most UK and US media are now being played with carrot and stick far too easily. News owners are putting journalists and editors in impossible positions at the cost of news integrity. Even worse, they're gifting undeserved, unearned, undue credibility and divisive opportunity to destructive fascists. We have got to find a way to stop this ridiculous self-serving mismanagement from the very top down. There are a lot more of us than there are billionaire broligarch news owners, right?

Global far-right movement - so well-organised, well-funded, hyper-efficient, (probably) AI-powered. Germany on its knees, others (like Romania) falling one after another. Not to mention what happens in the U.S. Still as you say, a huge disconnect. One, normalisation. Two, why are they always fronted by grinning idiots. Three, how can they be efficient and clumsy at the same time. Etc. Something is very off. And very scary.

Yes, basically there are no nations, because they are the ultright globalists, and they came to terms to take over the world and split it into zones of dominance long ago -- all they waited for was Trump to come to power.

The sovereignty nation destroying globalists were communists, the UN and left wingers last Iooked. Now that Trump is revealing his true colours everyone has changed their tune and are saying that they knew all along that the globalists were in fact ultright wanting to split the world into spheres of influence. What rot.

You need to write more concisely. What exactly do you want to say?

Trump is not communist. He is a populist by his expressions and Leninist-Bolshevik by his vision and actions. He started with a lot of Bolshevik actions. In the economy, he has put up trade barriers that have hammered the US and global economy, and now he is imposing price control on retail businesses such as Amazon, Walmart, ... Of course, he is going to do worse.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Trump is the puppet/part of the US based Imperialist white western patriarchy consisting of big fossil fuels, arms, animal ag, pharma, tech and media interests. He is displaying continuity of agenda of these interests in the middle east and all over the world. His ‘trade barriers’ are an attempt to weaken China and as he’s filled his regime with China hawks so a hot war is not off the cards either. Trump is trying to isolate the US economically so that come the economic collapses and migrations from the agricultural failures of the climate crisis he can shoot brown and black people at the border. He’s a US supremacist and hegemonist.

It is not a global far-right movement It is US based interests in fossil fuels, arms, animal ag, pharma, tech and media. They control the EU, UK, Oz, Canada, NZ, the Philippines, much of South America esp Argentina and oil vassals in the Middle East etc. They do not control China or Russia, much to their annoyance.

Thanks, Carol. I bet my letter (sent as soon as I saw the damn paper on Sunday) will not appear next week. It said: "Once upon a time there would not have been a two-page free colour wraparound advertorial for a millionaire's limited company in this paper. Or perhaps the headline would have read. "Why are some white women attracted to liars, frauds and fascists?" "

Interesting that the Observer photo highlights the women in Reform Uk. The image in itself is a distortion of what I saw at our Kent count on Thursday. Women were very much under represented, except as wives. Keep calling this stuff out Carol!

Thank you for all you do and I will absolutely check out Citizens Reunited. Musk, Thiel, Yarvin, and the rest are the most dangerous people on the planet and more people need to understand this.

It could be Musk is a clever 5th column something shown in Carole’s discussion with his friend. The more dangerous close and influential to Trump are Steve Bannon and Navarro with no love lost with Musk.

Musk is NOT a broligarch but a man in a hurry- previously a democrat supporter of Obama Clinton and in 2020 Andrew Yang (dem POTUS candidate)

He suffered 4yrs of Biden dismissal of Tesla EV, Starlink etc - nasty Elizabeth Warren broadcasting he paid no tax when he paid $11billion.

His missions are survival of humanity(many aspects) and for more stalling actions by Trump which are influenced by Bannon / Navarro and Vance ? His wealth allowed him to buy time with Trump.

When Shanghai Gigafactory was built 2017-18 many shareholders worried that China could nationalise it. Musk has good relationship with China to the extent of rare residency right. Shanghai Gigafactory is probably 50% of Tesla wealth so Trump at Navarro bidding aiming to destroy China will not be supported by Musk

I think there are rational reasons for Carole’s criticism of the other broligarchs but would caution that Elon is more complex and his objectives differ.

Even in taking over Twitter 𝕏 which I think he was avoiding until Delaware court exposed unrelated internal papers of his companies in their discovery process and then expanded to his contacts - it became a hostile takeover. He then looked at censorship by Twitter similar to META GOOGLE MSOFT and he made an important step which I hope Carole recognises

Let them speak. If you ban your enemies from speaking they will go underground and their secret cabal will suddenly powerfully surprise the world.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Poor little Elon got his feelings hurt so he bought a site where he could force everyone to pay attention to him. Too bad he let all the nazis he replatformed red pill him. Elon may have had great aspirations but he is no longer who you seem to think he is just like the lady in the story.

You might like to re compose what is basically ignorant and shows zero knowledge of Elon from say 2012. Take time out to read Ashley Vance and Walter Isaacson. Plus do you trust MSM and SM with advertisers funding from big oil, big pharma, big vehicle when Musks marketing model challenges their viability

All you have to do is see what he says and does. To think Elon is the same person he was even four years ago is super naive

Sadly reporting of what he says and does is often bigotted. MSM is focussed on broadcasting hatred. I do not like contrived hatred and unacknowledged humanitarian actions.

Your logic is somewhat lacking - as CEO of a NASDAQ LISTED company with worldwide production and distribution - there is every reason for no comment on confidential discussions with India’s Modi.

Buy some TSLA shares and ask questions at AGM.

The article is typical of journalists attempting stitch up with contrived misinfo.

American corporation legally by shareholders ELECTED CEOs are not by definition oligarchs. TSLA doesn’t even have A and B shares like METAs Zuckerberg and Newscorp Murdoch control.

As for Starlink - it has provided internet connection to corners of the globe that governments were incapable of providing in visionary and humanitarian ways whilst abiding by regulatory requirements of countries where it is provided so speaking with Modi hardly seems criminal!

You clearly do not want to hear any criticism of Musk.

You are wilfully ignoring his anti-democratic behaviour, covered in part in the articles linked above.

Nailed it, Carole. This is exactly it:

"This reverse attack approach is what makes it so incredibly difficult to fight back against the far right. They have captured the language of defenders of democracy defenders and reversed the meanings of these terms."

Expand full comment
Steve B's avatar

By preemptively subverting arguments against opponents - which they are often guilty of themselves - the far-right forgo their right to free speech, and journalistic reply. More than that, they lose the right to form or be a political party and must be rejected from politics, media, and all parts of society.

If we do not do these things in many nations under attack from within, our entire political structure will become dominated by falsification, fabrication and shit-slinging. It will be reduced to the mire of lowest common denominator subversion. At that point, we can abandon such dreams of robust national debate and democratic law-making.

Germany's attempt to remove the AfD is valid. But is it too little too late?

There is a clear path for democracy turning into kleptocracy and finally full blown dystopian tyranny. It is called Russia. And it has been a moral failure of elites as well as oligarchs. Same trajectory can be seen happening in most advanced economies - particularly in the US but also in the UK, France and Germany. And in fact in most if not all democracies around the world.

Peter Turchin has a brilliant book End Times which has a comprehensive and scientific if not very encouranging explanation on the subject.

All the names are well known since 2022 when they were justifying Putin's war and amplifying Putin's nuclear bluff (basically they are nuclear terrorists).

Why Musk is promoting the AfD nazis. Reform, Romanian Nazi-Hooligans, Orban, Fico? Because they are enabled and promoted by Moscow and Beijing. Musk joined the Putin-Trump coalition in August 2022, since then he is doing all what Moscow and Beijing want him to do.
