It's hard to watch as the Tech Broligarchy raze some of the US's most venerable media institutions but, given what's happening there right now - it's not unexpected. Large corporate media is (and I think, with a couple of exceptions, always was) beholden to the whims of its billionaire owners. However, as you're starting to prove with The Nerve, with disappointment comes opportunity. the future of independent and meaningful 4th Estate accountability is in new forms of publication such as the Nerve and Byline Times. Thanks Carole.

To those who still do not subscribe to Carole’s scene get your wallet out NOW. This lady and her like are pivotal to us overcoming and exposing fascism, here in UK and Europe. I fear that battle already risks being lost in USA with its politically corrupt Supreme Court.

Thanks Carole for being such an inspiration for the 'FUCK THIS - let's get on with something else' gang...Action is agency indeed and your call to atcion about having nerve being the one thing we gotta hold on to - so useful at a time where is just very easy to feel powerless and less than in the face of billionnaires who can do what they want (it seems ) with a phone call or click of a button. Thanks for all of this. we fight on

Thank you Carole! When the system becomes so broken and rigged against us, and against it's foundational purpose, the only response is to start it afresh, together. Whether like the people of Mineapolis, you with your Substack, The Nerve, whatever, wherever. I recall the closure of the Rand Daily Mail in South Africa in 1985 under increasingly repressive apartheid legislation. The journalists pooled their severance pay-outs to launch the Weekly Mail which became highly respected and morphed into the Mail & Guardian. Solidarnosc!

I've cancelled my subscription to the Washington Post after 40 years. Thanks for being a journalist who cares about truth.

It’s heartbreaking, isn’t it?

Thank you Carole, and your team, for your principled stance and inspiration.

Palantir is stretching its tentacles into Australia too.

Thank you, Carole. I appreciate your rallying to your colleagues and encouraging them. It’s heartbreaking to me to lose The Washington Post as a reliable source of news. I had always trusted it and it was part of the American history of which I was proud. Thank you too for your investigations.

Murdoch ,that speaks literally volumes Carole as you know. I wonder if the tape was known about by Epstein & what he knew about Trump added to it with putler. Yeah I’ve saw people discredit it but Steeles dossier just like our Ambassador all had to be discredited to keep trump happy & you know we pinned our hopes on the US after brexit. Rolled out red carpet to Trump like France for him to treat us the way he has. I feel vindicated for everything I’ve said about him after I went up to find out about the lady getting her water cut off from there to finding hidden servers to what the nonsense he came out with about Afghanistan.

If only MacKenzie Scott had received WaPo in the divorce. SHE understands that there are better things to do with money than simply make more of it.

Keep at it! So interesting that Trump, Thiel and Musk have deep connections with racist family and cultural backgrounds.

I deeply respected your work on the Cambridge Data Analytica Scandal. But cry me a river over The Washington Post and their piecemeal protection racket of Western Liberal mouth pieces. Since when have they produced any real investigative journalism that didn't support imperialist interventionist propaganda and neocon legacy architecture

I think TFB (I love a TLA) captures them perfectly. I think 'boy' needs to be used for these people more often, as it carries the same immature (and premature) connotations as us men calling women 'girls'.

Succinctly put. And I agree Carole. Lets all keep on 'truckin'

So, are they being replaced by AI?

Just a guess, but how else do you cover 300 jobs?

If so, I wonder how well that’s (not) going to go!

Ian, the sports is just completely nixed. No need to replace with AI — the rest may pull from AI amalgamations of news — but the real story is the biggest “catch and kill” on trump’s behalf of all time. Whooooo!

Hopefully it becomes a case of “they tried to bury us, but they didn’t know that we were seeds.”
