Thank you, Carole. The murder of children, medical workers and journalists tells us everything we need to know about this so-called 'war' x

Thank you for bringing this to us, and also, importantly, for highlighting the organisations and newspapers who are not taking part. Sadly the list does not surprise me, but I', still able to be shocked that newspapers like the Guardian and Observer are not taking part. I had more hope for them than that.

What do people in Israel think of their government killing children, medical & aid workers and journalists? None of them are armed or dangerous. Because this war is not going to be allowed to end until the genocide is complete, the PEOPLE of ISRAEL have to rebel. Trump and his son-in-law Jared want it cleansed so that they can build a resort and make money. Netanyahu wants it cleansed because he's a bigot. Hamas was willing to turn over the Israeli hostages if Netanyahu stopped the killing. He said no! This has been the excuse they were hoping for. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THE HOSTAGES. The politicians on both the left and the right took the Jewish fund money (AIPAC) so they can't do anything meaningful to stop it. They are now complicit. Why are the humanitarians in governments allowing this to continue. STOP SUPPLYING THE ISRAELIS WITH ARMS! The journalists were trying to do a job in a war zone but even they became targets. Netanyahu doesn't want to let them witness and write about human rights abuses. Too late Bibi we know!

The irony of many credible, distinguished journalists like yourself leaving mainstream media is that the mainstream media will not call our governmental crime and corruption around the world, yet mainstream mass media are the only ones who could possibly bring an end to said crime and corruption if they all collectively grew a backbone and a pair of balls. So, what to do?

Every morning, it seems, I read twenty or so posts from wonderful journalists as yourself who are courageous enough to tell the truth (it shouldn't have to be courageous to do so, but here we are) and shine a light on the perpetrators of evil. It's difficult to go about my day without a sense of fear and dread, but I'm old enough (74) to realize that many (sub-)humans will do what they want if they know there are no consequences.

Obviously, the longer this goes on, the more emboldened and more empowered these cretins will be. So, here is the plan: Carole...please connect up with your fellow "credibles" and form some sort of consortium of fellow journalists, pundits and influencers who do two things:

1. Perhaps you all write the same thing one or two days a week calling out the aforesaid crime and corruption in one of the nexuses of evil and publish it under one masthead.

2. Put forth a manifesto declaring your cohort's intent to drape the heat of the sun on these devils who seemingly don't care about the future of this planet or any of the living creatures (icluding us) on it.

Whether or not your group charges for this is immaterial; if you do, I'm sure thousands will rush to be subscribers. And I'll bet that many advertisers will knock down your door to be a part of this, either with ad revenue or underwriting your efforts.

Here is the deal: We don't have enough Safires, Woodwards, Bernsteins, Cronkites and Brinkleys in your ranks anymore. But the power of the press, as it were, is the amalgam of the likes of you and your "credibles" to band together to show the reading public that what is happening in the world today has to be front page news day after day.

Bottom line: you're great and many of your contemporaries are, as well, but singular clarion voices in the void aren't viral enough these days. We need the few hundred of you who have burnished their careers with outstanding investigative journalism to band collectively before this gets out of hand. And it will, believe me.

I'd bet the farm that there would be a grassroots groundswell if you carry this off. I am placing this comment in the comments section of the handful of others I trust to perhaps counteract the inertia that will surely get more difficult to overcome in time.

Dear Carole, though I admire many of your points here and on so.many other issues, inc on vile btexit, disgusting racism, ... we do however have to keep in mind that in Gaza, people work for Hamas, explicitly or tacitly support, fund and help them publically or are killed, homeless, hungry, shunned, ... Also many so called journalists participated in the horrendous invasion, rape, immolation, torture, murder, ... in Israel as willing enthusiastic participants and publicised ot all on telegram that day and in the week following. Those of the 2 million plus Gazans that did not invade Israel participated in the captivity, dead body dragging behind vehicles, cheering, rocket part manufacture, child bomber indoctrination, ... propaganda, snitching on the disgusted, ... so no I do not see Hamas owned or enslaved reporters as reporters, but propaganda outlets. Yes far too many people are being killed, but we all die. I myself am ready to die and would welcome it, but leave it in God's hands. I believe that this is just a training ground and death is just our graduation from this life into something far better for those who gratefully accept Christ as their saviour or far worse for those who refuse to. Christ is appearing to millions of Muslims world wide personally to call them to him and their churches all over the middle east are growing exponentially, espescially in Gaza and Iran. REPONDENTS: Please think very deeply before doing so. I am not advocating genocide, supporting vile Netenyahu, mass murder, ... just stating what I see as facts.

The thing here is that Israel is out of control. John Mearsheimer pointed out on a most recent episode of JudgingFreedom that 'one could make the analysis that Israel won't again try to initiate an attack against Iran' but then he said that 'but I would bet that Israel will attack Iran again.'

And this is the problem. It's not a reporting problem, at least in terms of ending the genocide in Gaza, but that Israel, to their ideological hilt, will be their on outward admission, wipe out the Palestinians by deliberate starvation and obtain a very large part of the Middle East. To them all of this religiously preordained.

If I were the senior editor of a news organisation I wouldn't get my employees killed for no benefit whatsoever, as we all know what is going on anyway - by Netanyahu's and his inner circle's direct communication to the public.

I would have my journalists report on how/why the West is sending/selling weapons to Israel. As that is the only real game-changer here.

Brilliant work and immensely important once again, Carole. Thank you.

The word capitulation is getting a hammering at the moment. It's tired now. If journalists are prevented from journalising and told that they can't journal by the management/owners of their journalistic publications, then that's an attack on journalism from within. A sort of cannibalisation. Like many others reading this, I'm so utterly dismayed that news outlets I once held in the highest regard are now capitulating in multiple ways.

Also I learned a new word. Cheers for 'exfiltrate', CC. Like that one. I shall exfiltrate myself from comments here now.

Monica Sandor's avatar

Haha, spy books and TV series have made 'exfiltrate' part of our vocabulary. But I think it has to be done by one person to another - i.e. get them out of wherever they are active as agents, if their cover has been blown or about to be. But 'exfiltrating oneself' from a site or comment section works!

Steve B's avatar

Thank you, Monica - I've clearly been reading and watching all the wrong spy stories.

It has put me in mind of a very cheeky test someone once did, where they sent notes to several friends which just said "Cover blown. Flee Immediately." (unsigned, no indication of from who or where) and of the friends left the country. I say friends...

That could've been a multi-exfiltration, perhaps? No, no, maybe not.

Monica Sandor's avatar

Sounds like the note Kim Philby sent his fellow ‘Cambridge spy’ Donald Maclean when indeed his cover was blown and they had to flee to Moscow (1951), before Philby himself had to follow suit. Philby was not exfiltratef but set sail from Beirut. Msclean was in a sense exfiltrated when his cover was blown, znd at tje Rusdians’ behest was to take Burgess with him though the latter was not under suspicion. Though their Doviet hanflers were trying to organize their departure, I tjink in the end they just took a ferry ftom Britain to France and then a train from Paris to Moscow. Worth reading for the actual account of Philby’s nmasking is Ben Macintyre’s A Spy Aming Friends.

Steve B's avatar

At first I thought YES! it's Kim Philby, but now I'm thinking it was a writer messing about with writer friends using similarly worded notes. My problem here is that I think I heard about it on an old QI episode, if that means anything to you?

Monica Sandor's avatar

Oh yeah, I sometimes watched it when I was living in the UK - when Stephen Fry was host!

Yes the governments worldwide are suppressing journalists. It still takes a “trigger puller” to fire the gun, to launch the rocket,to release the bomb, to obey the violent order.

How to reach and stop them should also be a priority.

VEE LAVALLEE's avatar

The Israeli people themselves have to stop this. If they don't then they may as well stop simply protesting. It's meaningless. Does the holocaust similarity not mean anything? Are they really suffering from the blind hatred they were subjected to? This is no different.

SIMON WOOD's avatar

The genocide, the destruction of hospitals, schools and housing, the targeted killings of journalists, medics, children, the list goes on. Israel’s colonial war is a warning to us all - don’t resist or you too will be massacred and ultimately erased.

Traditional weapons have been superseded by drones and AI. Modern wars aren’t fought using tanks and fighter aircraft any more, they have become redundant and so they have been repurposed as the means to rain terror on the civilian population, pulverising them, using tank shells to eliminate journalists, supersonic aircraft to bomb family tents. Drones have kill lists, identifying targets using AI and killing them automatically. We used to confine killer robots to science fiction, now automated drones are killing and maiming daily in Gaza and cause the vast majority of frontline deaths in Ukraine. A drone flew over my back garden the other day - it sent a shiver down my spine.

Just as Guernica presaged blitzkrieg and the holocaust, Gaza shows what happens when the power of the autocrats and their big tech backers is challenged.
